Using IGDIs in the OSEP Reporting Process

(Note: Some knowledge of the OSEP reporting requirement and the work of the ECO center is assumed in the material discussed below – refer to the ECO website for more information.)

Basic Assumptions: To use IGDIs in the OSEP reporting, you will need to collect an entry IGDI assessment and an exit IGDI assessment, at minimum separated by at least 6 months. It should be noted that IGDIs are designed to be used much more frequently than this in an early screening and progress monitoring approach to services. We also assume that if you are using IGDIs, you also are using the child data system and have access to children’s individual score reports.

Converting IGDI's to ECO Ratings: From these reports, locate the entry total rate per minute score from each child’s Individual Report. Using this score, look up the ECO rating equivalent (1 to 7) in the Conversion Table (see below) for that IGDI by the child’s age at test and the total score. There you find the equivalent ECO rating (1 to 7). Repeat this for the exit assessment occasion. These data are included as evidence scores on the child’s Child Outcome Summary Form (COSF).

In summary, the procedure is as follows:

  1. Administer the IGDI at entry (or exit).
  2. Obtain the Total Rate Per Minute score from the child's Individual Report on the website.
  3. Look up where this score falls in the conversion table below.
  4. Locate an ECO rating that corresponds to this IGDI score.
  5. Enter this score into the Child’s COSF.
  6. Repeat as needed for other IGDIs also being used.
